Kiana’s Story

Meet Kiana, a tenacious and compassionate manager and cook at Alachua Bev’s Drive-Thru for the past decade, with aspirations of furthering her education. Recently, she received life-changing news—she has been accepted into the Habitat for Humanity program, sparking hope for a brighter future. Kiana’s dedication, hard work, and passion for helping others are evident in all she does. Family is at the core of her heart, and spending time with her sister and mother brings her immense joy.

However, the area where Kiana currently resides experiences gun violence, motivating her to seek a better living situation. She turned to her sister for guidance, who had been through the Habitat program herself. Encouraging her every step of the way, Kiana’s sister is her unwavering supporter. “My sister is my rock,” Kiana smiles, “She makes sure I attend every build every day I can and is genuinely interested in my progress.”

With a new forever home on the horizon, Kiana eagerly anticipates continuing her education. Her dream is to become a social worker, determined to make a difference in the lives of children who need support and care. “I had loving and present parents, and I want to help children who don’t have that privilege,” she shares. The excitement of decorating her very own home for the first time fills her with joy as she curates her wish list of home essentials.

For Kiana, a home represents more than just a house—it’s a sanctuary where she can feel safe, loved, and create cherished memories. It’s a place of growth and empowerment, where she can bloom into her full potential and realize her dreams. Kiana’s journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of Habitat for Humanity. The program not only offers a stable and secure home but also equips individuals like Kiana with valuable skills and knowledge to maintain it.

With immense gratitude, Kiana extends her heartfelt thanks to the staff, donors, and volunteers of Alachua Habitat for the invaluable opportunity to be a part of this life-changing program. Their unwavering support and dedication have made her dreams a reality, and she looks forward to paying it forward by creating a brighter future for herself and others.

Everyone deserves a decent & affordable place to call home.

Strong and stable homes help build strong and stable communities.

Decent shelter is something we all need to thrive. With a little help, we all have the potential to stand n our own. Bold actions speak louder than words. Working together, side by side, promotes understanding and self-reliance.

No matter who we are or where we come from…

We all deserve to have a decent life. We deserve to feel strength and stability day after day. We deserve to know we have the power to care for ourselves and our families and build our futures. At Habitat for Humanity, this principle is what unites us. Through shelter, we empower. Our shared vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Because we are all humans. And every single one of us deserves the opportunity for a better future.

Alachua Habitat for Humanity

Founded in 1986, Alachua Habitat for Humanity is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We envision a world where everyone has a decent place to live and we work towards that vision by bringing people together to build strength, stability, and independence through shelter. To accomplish these goals, we invite people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build houses “Habitat Houses“ together in partnership with families in need of affordable housing. Habitat houses are sold to homeowner families financed with mortgages they can afford. For more information visit our About Page.
