Santa Fe XIII Home Dedication

Community Collaboration Celebrates Alachua Habitat for Humanity's 179th Home Dedication

High Springs, FL – In a heartwarming display of community partnership, engagement, and education, community members will come together to celebrate the dedication of the 179th home on Monday, October 23rd, at 4:00 pm. The home dedication ceremony will take place at 18446 NW 230th Drive, High Springs, 32643.

This beautiful achievement was made possible through the unwavering support of our community partners. The City of High Springs generously donated the lot, and the dedication of Santa Fe College construction students and apprentices played a pivotal role in building this remarkable home. This partnership exemplifies the core values of Alachua Habitat for Humanity, fostering not only the training of future construction professionals but also fulfilling our mission to provide safe, affordable housing in our community.

This house is the thirteenth completed through the unique partnership between Alachua Habitat and Santa Fe College's Charles R. Perry Construction Institute. The home was constructed in two sections on the college campus and later transported to its final destination in May. Upon arrival, the future homeowner, alongside dedicated Habitat volunteers, worked tirelessly to complete the house, turning it into a loving home.

Alachua Habitat's collaboration with Santa Fe College and its apprenticeship programs is a testament to the mutual benefits it brings to our community. "Our collaboration with Santa Fe College and its apprenticeship programs is truly exceptional, as it delivers benefits to all parties involved," remarked Stevie Doyle, the Executive Director of Alachua Habitat for Humanity. "Students and apprentices acquire invaluable hands-on experience while making a direct and meaningful contribution to the construction of a home for a deserving Habitat family."

Alachua Habitat for Humanity remains committed to its mission of building homes for families in need, those who demonstrate the ability to pay a modest mortgage, and are willing to partner through sweat equity volunteering. These homes are not handed out but rather earned by dedicated homeowners who take on the responsibility of managing an affordable mortgage. Part of this partnership entails a sweat equity requirement, where homeowners dedicate 250 hours of their time, working on their own home, contributing to the construction of other homes, and participating in homeownership and financial literacy workshops.
