Building Futures Together: Alachua Habitat’s 184th Home Dedication

Gainesville – Alachua Habitat for Humanity is excited to announce the upcoming dedication of a new home for the Carver Family, a testament to resilience, determination, and community support. The dedication ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 22nd at 11:30 AM at 2239 SE 34th Terrace, Gainesville, FL 32641.

Michelle, a determined single mother of four, has shown remarkable resilience on her journey to homeownership. Focused on creating a better life for her children, she envisioned a home with a red front door—a symbol of hope and new beginnings. Before finding out Pepine Realty would be her main sponsor, Michelle chose this detail, unaware that Betsy, the broker and owner of Pepine Realty, had also painted the door of her first home red. Though she faced initial setbacks when applying to Alachua Habitat for Humanity's program, Michelle’s persistence paid off with an approval call in January 2023 after reapplying in November 2022.

The success of this project highlights the dedication of 161 volunteers who contributed 1,680 hours, along with the generous support of our sponsors. Alachua Habitat for Humanity extends heartfelt gratitude to Pepine Realty for their significant donation, as well as SHIP and the Florida Housing Finance Corporation for providing down payment assistance. Special thanks also go to the UF Habitat for Humanity Chapter for their invaluable volunteer efforts. Their partnership and commitment to affordable housing have made a lasting impact on families in our community.

Alachua Habitat for Humanity builds homes for families and individuals who demonstrate a need for housing, the ability to pay a modest mortgage, and a willingness to complete 250 hours of sweat equity. Homeowner candidates receive the skills and resources needed to become successful homeowners through required educational workshops throughout the program. New homeowners take on the responsibility of an affordable mortgage payment, ensuring sustainable homeownership.

Alachua Habitat for Humanity

Founded in 1986, Alachua Habitat for Humanity is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We envision a world where everyone has a decent place to live and we work towards that vision by bringing people together to build strength, stability, and independence through shelter. To accomplish these goals, we invite people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build houses “Habitat Houses“ together in partnership with families in need of affordable housing. Habitat houses are sold to homeowner families financed with mortgages they can afford. For more information visit our About Page.
