Alachua Women Build Completes Their 17th House

Alachua Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Chapter to Celebrate 17th House Built

Gainesville – Alachua Women Build, a chapter of Alachua Habitat for Humanity, proudly announces the completion of its 17th house, built for future homeowner Pauline. This remarkable group, composed entirely of women, will celebrate the beginning of Pauline’s homeownership journey with a special event on Thursday, August 22nd at 4:30 pm.

Despite facing a significant delay in their usual schedule, the volunteer-based group completed the construction in a record time of six months. This achievement was made possible through the generous contributions from Dr. Kim Kazimour, the Women’s Giving Circle of the Community Foundation of North Central Florida, the Gainesville Garden Club, Ridgway Roof Truss Company, the City of Gainesville, and numerous individual Women Build supporters. The success of this project is a testament to the tireless dedication of the 98 volunteers who collectively contributed 2,326 hours, working alongside Pauline herself.

Pauline, a mother, grandmother, and lifelong resident of North Central Florida, was born and raised in Marion County. She relocated to Alachua County after the birth of her first child and dedicated 20 years of service at Tacachale Developmental Disability Center. After many years living through unsafe and unstable housing, Pauline is thrilled to finally become a homeowner. She is particularly excited about her brand-new kitchen, where she looks forward to cooking and baking for her loved ones.

Alachua Habitat for Humanity builds homes for families and individuals who demonstrate a need for housing, the ability to pay a modest mortgage, and a willingness to complete 250 hours of sweat equity. Homeowner candidates receive the skills and resources needed to become successful homeowners through required educational workshops throughout the program. New homeowners take on the responsibility of an affordable mortgage payment, ensuring sustainable homeownership.

Alachua Habitat for Humanity

Founded in 1986, Alachua Habitat for Humanity is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We envision a world where everyone has a decent place to live and we work towards that vision by bringing people together to build strength, stability, and independence through shelter. To accomplish these goals, we invite people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build houses “Habitat Houses“ together in partnership with families in need of affordable housing. Habitat houses are sold to homeowner families financed with mortgages they can afford. For more information visit our About Page.
